Citizens of Los Angeles can go years without seeing a lightning storm overhead or hearing the clap of thunder. This moment captured from a loft in Downtown Los Angeles was somewhere between a once-in-a-lifetime moment and a miracle.

On Monday night October 4th 2021, the Los Angeles Chargers hosted the Las Vegas Raiders at SoFi Stadium just outside of LAX. Mother Nature would not be upstaged. Due to a rare LA lightning storm, the kickoff was delayed for safety reasons despite the stadium being covered overhead by a canopy. During the weather delay, I noticed lighting and clouds moving in from the northwest. I grabbed my tripod and high megapixel Nikon Z7 and fired off a bunch of shots capturing several instants of lighting strikes. Below is a composite of at least 4 separate still photos.
